The first playoff game proved to be a success for the Highland High Lacrosse team as they beat Mountain View at Highland Park on Wednesday, May 5, by the score of 18-4.
The game started off on the wrong foot though when right off the bat Mountain View was able to score. After that quick reality check, the Rams pulled it together and did not allow another goal until they had secured the win.
Throughout the game, Highland players were able to keep a calm head and passed many times before actually shooting on goal, both giving the defense a second to take a breather and giving the offense time to set up. Most players on the team agree that this was one of their best passing games, unselfishly passing to each person on the field.
“The key to winning is staying relaxed,” Tyler Murphy said, “and staying out of the penalty box.”
Highland’s one weakness is the number of penalties they get during a game. Players go in and out of the penalty box during the game.
“In order to win on Saturday, we can’t overlook them,” Mac Piper said. “We just need to play our game and stay out of the penalty box.
On Saturday, May 8, Highland goes up against Northridge for their next game, at 12:30 at Highland Park. Highland supporters, come watch as Highland goes one step further in the playoffs.
