Rams overcome Spartans
April 29th, 2010On April 28, the Highland Rams faced off with the Murray Spartans and left the field with a 14-3 victory.
The Rams dominated the field. Both their offense and defense easily trumped Murray’s attempts every time. Mac Piper, Bob Farrell, Peter Ferrin, Malcolm Peck and Tyler Murphy all found the goal more than once during the game. Defensively, Highland also played well only allowing the Spartans 3 goals.
Matt De La Mare played over an injury and triumphed. He injured his knee back in the Pleasant Grove game yet still performed excellently during this game.
“Matt stepped up and showed that he really wants to play varsity,” Mac Piper said. “He played his heart out and played very aggressively.”
The one thing that Highland did not do well was keep a calm head. Penalties were not only being called for the Rams playing too physically, but the referee also called penalties for excessive talking and bad language. Even Coach Grow was given a Conduct Foul near the end of the fourth quarter for questioning one of the ref’s calls. But the refs also were calling penalties on Murray who had two players disqualified due to getting 5 personal fouls.
Although they were hot heads on the field, the Rams still left with a win. Highland was clearly the better team and no one on the sideline could question that. Their offensive plays seemed effortless and the defense made the game look very easy.
Highland looks forward to their game against East on Friday. Before the game against Murray, the Rams were nervous for East, but with their new win, their spirits are raised. Murray beat East 12-9, so perhaps Highland’s game against East will be easier than expected.
Rams get first victory over Mountain View
April 16th, 2010By Samantha Rich
On Wednesday, Highland was able to experience their first win against Mountain View with a 15-1 game at Highland Park Elementary.
Highland dominated the game for all four quarters. Tyler Murphy, Porter Moffitt, Alex Farrell, Mac Piper and Austin Stevens all had one or more goals.
The Rams finally were able to come together as a team. With the morale raised from scoring so much, the game-play improved notably. Like a well-oiled machine, the team worked together to score goal after goal.
“It felt great to get a win. It was a good confidence booster and helped our team come together,” senior Porter Moffitt said.
Also different from other games, all the Rams were healthy for the game. With players like Malcolm Peck and Jordan Strong back, it helped build momentum toward the final win.
With a win like this under their belts, Highland is confident to face West this Saturday, April 17. Game details are still being worked out so be sure to check back here for more news.
